Moscow 2013!

Hi!

I was just invited to start blogging for Students Gone Global and I wanted to tell you about myself and my study abroad. I currently study Russian Language and Literature at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and today May 24, I just figured out that not only am I eligible to go to Moscow but I will be one of the first if not the first to go! And to be honest I couldn’t be happier. My school has just started an agreement between the People’s Friendship University of Russia one of the top schools in the Russian Federation this year and I wanted to see if any of my fellow bloggers here or anyone else has gone to Russia or Moscow and how they liked it. Feel free to leave comments or message me!

Большое спасибо!

Джон Стампф

  1. Congrats on studying abroad in Russia! That is unbelievably cool. What made you want to study Russian Lanuage? My Dad has traveled to St. Petersburg and Moscow for international business and really liked both cities. I will ask him for tips and get back to you.

Also, you can select a featured image for each new blog post you write that will display a picture on our homepage. For more information on how to do that, check out our FAQ page (http://studentsgoneglobal.com/faq/) and scroll down to “What is a featured image?” You can also change the standard SGG logo blog header image to any image you want. Let me know if you have questions.

  2. I don’t really have a straight forward answer for you, I just kind of felt like I needed to learn it or else I wouldn’t be complete as a person. Perhaps I was Russian in a past life haha. And thanks for asking your dad I really appreciate it. And thanks for telling me about the featured image I will definitely add that into my post!

  3. Very cool John! I am personally looking forward to reading your blog as I have been to Russia once before on business. Studying abroad there will be a lot of fun for you.

One thing I suggest you do is visit the Kremlin, which is the best place to take in Moscow’s beautiful history. Also, the propaganda park is a great example of Russia’s socialist past and something I’m sure you will visit as well. Have fun!

  4. Thank you so much I am really excited to see all of these cultural things in Moscow. And I am really excited about seeing the Moscow Metro I hear it is one of the best in the world.

  5. Yes, of course, how could I forget the Metro. It was absolutely jam packed when I went so get used to a lot of people in a tiny space. Ha. It is another great example of Socialist Realism, something you probably already know though.

  6. @John, you are so lucky! The inaugural first person or part of the first group to travel to Russia is a pretty great deal. BTW, I absolutely love the background picture….studying abroad is amazing, hands down one of the best experiences of my life.

  7. I spent 7 weeks in Russia (Gatchina, near Saint Petersburg) a few years ago and I’m leaving next week for 2 months in Ufa, so hopefully I’ll be able to help you out with any more general questions you come up with as you’re preparing for your trip. I only spent one horribly jet-lagged day in Moscow on my last trip, and this time it doesn’t look like I’ll be making it there. If you get the chance definitely try to take the train and visit another city, traveling by train was such an experience.

  8. moscow is one of the most beautiful city in the world. And she has best subway in the world.

  9. Hey John, congrats on the acceptance! 2013 is right around the corner, you must be stoked! :) Looking forward to reading about the experience!
